ABOUT THE ARTIST Joanne Gigliotti has been involved in artistic process throughout her life seeing things in her unique the way, celebrating life's beauty and joys in ordinary things. Most of her work has been created in the medium of Batik Painting. Having used this resist method of painting working on linen and silk, then on rag board, she now batiks individual ceramic and glass tiles and creates large scale tile murals. Joanne is represented in permanent collections including The National Museum for Women in the Arts, McCormick Collection, Westinghouse Collection, and The London Library. Formerly the director of The Smithsonian Associate’s Studio Arts Department, she has shown work in over seventy one-woman and juried exhibitions across the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Design, and Sculpture from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Master of Education degree in Art from The Pennsylvania State University. More.... Currently working on, and exhibiting her own work, her participation in the visual arts also includes mentoring young and emerging artists, and teaching specialized master classes.
